Frequently Asked Questions
PepUp propane and fuel oil delivery customers have helped us come up with these questions and answers over the years. We’ll be adding more as needed to make sure you have all the information you need to make informed decisions about your home energy supplier. Call or send us an email at marketing@pepupinc.com if you have a question that isn’t on this list!
Home propane tanks have an attached gauge that shows the fill level as a percentage. The gauge is typically located on the top of the tank and has a dial or numbers that indicate the percentage of propane remaining in the tank. A full tank will read 80 percent on the gauge. When your gauge gets to 30 percent, it’s time to schedule a propane delivery.

When it’s time to refill your propane tank, PepUp delivers. Our delivery drivers are propane professionals who will follow specific procedures to fill your tank quickly, efficiently, and make sure your propane supply is safe to use. All you need to do is make sure the tank is accessible and visible.
Your driver will:
- Turn off the valve on your propane tank.
- Connect the hose from the delivery truck to the valve on the propane tank.
- Open the valve on the tanker truck to allow propane to flow into the tank.
- Monitor the tank while it’s filling.
- Close the valve on the refilling station once the tank is full.
- Turn on the valve on the propane tank and check for any potential leaks.
- If there are no leaks, the tank is ready to be used again.

Do you own your own propane tank? Before requesting a propane delivery, learn how to spot old propane tanks that need replacing.
A 500-gallon propane tank can last between two and eight months, depending on factors such as house size, appliances using propane in the home, the local climate, and the number of people living in the home.
Use this guide to determine how many gallons of propane your home will use in a year. Typical PepUp customers have their tanks filled 2-3 times annually. Use your total annual propane needs to determine approximate tank size, depending on how often you’d like to fill your tank. Give us a call at 800-638-7802 and we’ll help you choose the best tank size for your home!
Our delivery drivers leave room in your propane tank to allow for the propane to expand when it heats up. We fill your tank to 80 percent of its total capacity to leave room for expansion and keep you safe.
Many factors contribute to the amount of propane your home will use for heat each year, including average temperatures in your area, your home’s insulation, connected appliances and external fixtures such as outdoor kitchens, patio heaters, and LP gas pool heaters, and your home’s indoor thermostat settings. Those factors not being considered, the 2,000-square-foot home uses about 900 gallons of propane for heating each year.
